Sound Explorers invites school classes on a musical journey of discovery through the orchestra. Step by step, children get to know the different instrument families, their sounds and unique characteristics. The journey begins with the strings.
What can a violin tell us? What does a double bass sound like when it rumbles in its lowest register? And what happens when five string instruments start playing together? Accompanied by a presenter and a string quintet, the children explore these and many other questions. They experience the violin, viola, cello and double bass up close and discover their different sounds, tone colours and musical possibilities.
But it’s not just about listening: musical games, rhythmic experiments and hands-on activities invite the children to explore and take part. They interact with the musicians, become part of the musical experience themselves and discover just how important listening, responding and playing together are when making music as a group.
