Born in Pavia, Bruno Taddia graduated in Aesthetic Philosophy. Alongside his vocal studies, he also studied violin in Genoa and composition in Milan. He has appeared in numerous productions at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses and festivals, including La Fenice in Venice, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Teatro alla Scala in Milan. He has performed under conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Roberto Abbado, Michele Mariotti, Francesco Lanzillotta, Thomas Hengelbrock, and Ottavio Dantone, and has worked with directors including Dario Fo, Mario Martone, Ermanno Olmi, Pier Luigi Pizzi, and Valentina Carrasco.
His recent successes include Donizetti’s Bastarda in Brussels; Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia in Nancy, Denver, and Florence; Falstaff and Don Pasquale in Montpellier; Madama Butterfly in Torre del Lago and Tokyo; Don Giovanni in Denver; and the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in Bologna and Reggio Emilia.
In the current season he appears as Don Giovanni at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, in Il furioso all’isola di San Domingo at the Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo, Falstaff at Opéra de Montpellier, La notte di un nevrastenico in Bolzano with the Haydn Orchestra, and in the world premiere of Tramontano’s Cronaca di un amore at Teatro Municipale di Piacenza.
The Haydn Orchestra was founded in 1960 at the initiative of the municipalities and provinces of Bolzano and Trento. Its repertoire ranges from the Baroque to contemporary music. The orchestra has taken part in numerous international festivals, appearing in Austria (in Bregenz, Erl, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Musikverein in Vienna), Germany, Japan, Italy (at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Sagra Musicale Umbra in Perugia, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Anima Mundi in Pisa, MiTo SettembreMusica in Turin, and the Biennale Musica in Venice), the United States of America, Switzerland, and Hungary.
Among the conductors who have appeared on its podium are, among others, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Jesús López-Cobos, Neville Marriner, Riccardo Muti, and Jeffrey Tate. After the nearly thirty-year tenure of Andrea Mascagni, the role of Artistic Director has been held by Hubert Stuppner, Gustav Kuhn, Daniele Spini, Giorgio Battistelli, and André Comploi (from 2025).
