With an intense career as a conductor in Europe, Asia, Australia, Latin America, and North America, he has established himself on the international circuit. Already in 2011, the English magazine Gramophone identified him as one of the "Icons of Tomorrow."
Matheuz has held important positions in some of the world's leading musical institutions. He served as the Principal Conductor of La Fenice in Venice, one of Italy's most prestigious opera houses. Furthermore, he was the Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Mozart in Bologna, a remarkable recognition highlighting his mastery of symphonic and concert repertoire. Diego Matheuz's concerts have been celebrated worldwide and often received international media coverage. Among his most memorable performances are the famous New Year Concerts of La Fenice, broadcast worldwide by RAI, and the prestigious ECHO Klassik Gala in Berlin, broadcast live on German television ZDF.
In addition to his remarkable achievements in the world of orchestral conducting, Matheuz has been involved in extraordinary projects. For example, he participated in the "Tokyo Gala Concert" in December 2018, celebrating the 120th anniversary of Deutsche Grammophon at the Suntory Hall, where Diego shared the conductor's podium with Seiji Ozawa and conducted the renowned Saito Kinen Orchestra alongside world-famous artists like Anne-Sophie Mutter. Diego Matheuz is known for his musical eclecticism, ranging from classical repertoire like Mozart to more complex works by Mahler and Shostakovich. He has also demonstrated a deep affinity for Latin American music, performing works by composers such as Ginastera, Márquez, and Marsalis. Aside from his involvement in symphonic concerts and opera productions, Matheuz is a passionate educator. He co-founded the MACH project, an inclusive initiative that offers free lessons and coaching to students worldwide. This project aims to inspire and educate future generations of musicians.
L’Orchestra Haydn si è costituita nel 1960 per iniziativa dei Comuni e delle Province di Bolzano e di Trento. Il suo repertorio spazia dal barocco ai contemporanei. L’Orchestra Haydn ha preso parte a diversi festival internazionali, apparendo in Austria (a Bregenz, a Erl, al Mozarteum di Salisburgo e al Musikverein di Vienna), Germania, Giappone, Italia (al Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, alla Sagra Musicale Umbra di Perugia, al Rossini Opera Festival di Pesaro, ad Anima Mundi di Pisa, a MiTo SettembreMusica di Torino e alla Biennale Musica di Venezia), negli Stati Uniti d’America, in Svizzera e in Ungheria.
Sul suo podio sono saliti, fra gli altri, direttori quali Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Jesús López-Cobos, Sir Neville Marriner, Riccardo Muti, Sir Jeffrey Tate. Dopo la quasi trentennale guida di Andrea Mascagni, alla direzione artistica si sono avvicendati Hubert Stuppner, Gustav Kuhn, Daniele Spini e Giorgio Battistelli (dal 2021).
