From Mozart’s classical style to the influences of the 20th century, the programme offers a musical journey rich in colour and contrast. In addition to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 9, K. 73 – composed when the composer was still very young but already capable of astonishing listeners with his freshness and inventiveness – the evening continues with Darius Milhaud’s *Le boeuf sur le toit*, a lively and brilliant piece inspired by the rhythms and atmosphere of Brazil. The programme then takes us to the America of Aaron Copland with Hoe-Down, an energetic piece that reworks folk melodies of the West, evoking dances, festivals and wide open spaces. The evening concludes with a genuine novelty: the Italian premiere of the instrumental suite that composer Gábor Kerényi has drawn from Carmen, Georges Bizet’s most famous opera, reinterpreting its themes and characters in an original and captivating orchestral arrangement.
