For two hundred years, an unsolved mystery has haunted Seville: Princess Rosina has disappeared without a trace. When Lindoro and Fiorello visit her former palace with their school class, they discover a mysterious wardrobe. Curious, they follow a strange figure inside and find themselves in a dark, enchanted world. There they meet Rosina, who has been placed under a spell by the sinister alchemist Bartolo and turns into a rose night after night. They have only until dawn to break the spell.
Here, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville becomes a fantastical, interactive music theatre experience. The children are not simply spectators but become part of the story themselves, singing together with the performers. Rossini’s captivating music accompanies a story about fear and courage, love and jealousy, friendship, freedom and the power of words. Fairy tales and fantasy offer a playful gateway to Rossini’s music and the world of opera.
