Description

In 1624 Claudio Monteverdi set to music an episode from Torquato Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata: two warriors fight each other in the dark without recognising one another, wound each other, and only in the final breath does one of them realise they have killed the person they loved. Four hundred years later, choreographer Philippe Kratz looks at the same scene and wonders whether two people are really fighting, or whether it is one person at war with themselves. From this question comes a piece that brings together two dancers and a single singer – who lends their voice to the narrator, Tancredi and Clorinda alike – a harpsichord and a circular space where bodies move like mirrors. A production by Centro Coreografico Nazionale/Aterballetto with Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Stabile di Torino.
