As conductor of opera and concert repertoire, as well as artistic director of major festivals and author of books, Ingo Metzmacher has devoted himself continuously to music, particularly to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Making the unfamiliar familiar and the familiar new has been his goal since the beginning of his career. In 2025, he conducted the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra for the fifth time, as well as some of Europe’s leading orchestras, and led the world premiere of Francesco Filidei’s opera Il nome della rosa at La Scala, as well as …heraus in Luft und Licht… by G. F. Haas with Klangforum Wien. At the Salzburg Festival, where he is a regular guest, he conducted Hans Werner Henze’s Das Floß der Medusa in 2025. In June 2025, he took part in his tenth and final Herrenhausen Festival. The 2025/26 season sees him once again working with major orchestras and presenting programmes of great interest, featuring Mahler as well as Messiaen, Shostakovich, Berg, Weill and Cerha, among others. He will continue his collaborations with Klangforum Wien and Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and will appear at the Opéra de Paris for a new production of Glass’s SATYAGRAHA. His presence at Europe’s leading opera houses and festivals is significant, often with works of particular interest: Rihm’s Die Eroberung von Mexico, Enescu’s Oedipe, Nono’s Intolleranza 1960, as well as Falstaff, Salome, Lady Macbeth and others. From 1997 to 2005, he was Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera, where he frequently collaborated with Peter Konwitschny. He subsequently held the same position at Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, where he presented important works that are rarely staged, including Henze’s Die Bassariden, Korngold’s Die tote Stadt, Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten and Messiaen’s Saint François d’Assise. As a pianist, he has worked with Christine Schäfer, Christian Gerhaher, Matthias Goerne and Georg Nigl at the Aspen Music Festival, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Salzburg Festival and the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen. His discography is also noteworthy, including recordings of Hartmann’s symphonies, Henze’s Symphony No. 9, works by Messiaen, Pfitzner, Humperdinck, Shostakovich and Nono with the Salzburg Festival, as well as recent recordings with Ensemble Modern.

Andrea Götsch, originally from South Tyrol, is internationally active as a soloist and has performed with orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestra Győr, the Orquestra Sinfónica de Castilla y León, the Recreation Orchestra, the Vienna Mozart Orchestra, the orchestra I Virtuosi Italiani, the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina, and the Südtirol Filarmonica. Since 2019, she has been a clarinetist with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, and she has also served at times as an elected committee member of the Philharmonic Association. As a young and emerging conductor, she leads concerts with various orchestras, primarily in Austria, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Korea, and she is the artistic director of the Ehrphilharmonie Wien. Andrea Götsch is a prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions and a founding member of several ensembles, including “Clarinet & Strings Vienna” and “La Philharmonica.” In addition, she performs in a wide variety of chamber music formations. Numerous radio, CD, and television recordings have been released. Since 2020, she has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), and in 2025 she also taught at the Mozarteum Salzburg. As a composer, she has already fulfilled several commissions. As a football player, she currently plays both for the Vienna Philharmonic Football Club and in the Austrian Women’s Bundesliga for the Wiener Sport-Club. She received her first clarinet lessons from Christian Laimer. She completed her studies with distinction at various institutions, including the Conservatory of Bolzano (Roberto Gander), the Mozarteum Salzburg (Alois Brandhofer, Dario Zingales), the University of Music in Nuremberg (Thomas Holzmann), as well as in Vienna at the Music and Arts Private University (Reinhard Wieser, Alexander Neubauer) and the University of Music and Performing Arts (Johann Hindler, Christoph Zimper). She studies conducting with Prof. Sophie Rachlin and assists and learns from renowned conductors such as Cornelius Meister and Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Further impulses for her career have come from studies in psychology and philosophy, music education, and mental training.
