Ludwig’s dream

Bonn, Germany, 1776. It is night. In the basement of the Beethoven family home, two old, bored toys are trying to pass the time when young Ludwig is suddenly dragged downstairs by his father, Johann. Left alone and forced to play the piano, young Ludwig improvises four simple yet unmistakable notes: da-da-da-daaa. As if by magic, the two toys emerge from their hiding place.

Inspired by Beethoven’s life story and marking the 200th anniversary of his death, the performance combines orchestral music with theatre, comedy and dance. An interactive musical experience that invites children to discover Beethoven’s famous Fifth Symphony in a playful and surprising way.

To prepare for the performance, accompanying activities are available for use in the classroom. A training session for teachers also offers ideas on how to prepare their classes for the interactive musical experience.
