Description

The intensity of the strings’ sound bridges different eras, musical languages and sensibilities. A journey that brings together works by great composers of the past and the twentieth century, creating a programme rich in contrasts and evocative moments. The intensity of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue K 546 meets the lively and refined character of Franz Schubert’s Fünf Deutsche Tänze D 90, in an ideal portrait of the Viennese Classical period. These works are complemented by the brilliant structure of Gustav Holst’s St Paul’s Suite, Op. 29, with its rich colours and references to the English tradition, and the melodic charm of the String Concerto by Nino Rota, a composer best known for his unforgettable soundtracks for Fellini’s films, but also for his extraordinary ability to combine elegance with expressive immediacy.
