Beyond the myth – arguably the greatest piece of fake news in the history of music, fuelled by Miloš Forman’s film and the writings of Aleksandr Pushkin – the concert offers a comparison between two great artistic figures who lived in Vienna in the second half of the 18th century. Their masterpieces reveal different styles, emotions and visions: on the one hand, Salieri’s theatrical elegance and refined composition; on the other, Mozart’s extraordinary melodic invention and expressive depth.
